This course is designed for those who have previously purchased a welder but need help setting it up correctly or troubleshooting common issues. Whether you’ve forgotten the basics or want to get the most out of your machine, this session will give you the confidence to achieve optimal welds.

What You’ll Learn:

We will address common welding issues, including:
Wire feed problems
Poor penetration
Wire burn-back
Difficulty striking an arc
And more!

This 2-hour, one-to-one session is led by a fully qualified City & Guilds tutor with over 60 years of combined industry experience.

What to Expect:

  • Brief Health & Safety talk
  • Machine setup guidance tailored to your specific welder and how you intend to use it
  • Understanding settings and parameters to achieve the best welds
  • Welder maintenance tips to ensure longevity

  • Bring your own welder and user manual – this session is customized to your machine and needs.

What to Wear:

  • Please wear suitable work clothing for the environment.
  • Long-sleeved garments and protective footwear are essential.
  • If you do not have suitable clothing, welders' overalls and steel-toe boots can be provided on the day at a competitive price.
  • Welding headshields are available for purchase, starting from £25.

Protective Gear Provided:

  • A leather apron and welding gauntlets will be supplied.

Health Considerations:

  • If you have a heart pacemaker or wear contact lenses, please consult your doctor and/or optician before booking this course.

Refreshments :

  • Tea and coffee are included in the course price.

  • For our in-house courses, you will be awarded a Certificate of Competence from our approved training centre, provided in paper format and signed by your tutor.
  • For our City & Guilds courses, you will receive a City & Guilds accreditation, which typically arrives within two weeks of course completion.
